2008-2009 - We try to get pregnant with J as the bio parent.
2009-2010 - We try to get pregnant with me as the bio parent.
2010-2011 - We take a break from trying to conceive and plan our wedding. We have an awesome wedding!
2011 - We research non-biological ways of becoming parents. We consider private adoption but aren’t sure that that is for us. But we know we can take care of a child right now, even if it is not a child who stays with us forever. We decide that we are interested right now in fostering, and possibly eventual foster-adoption.
late 2011 - We visit some foster agencies in our area. I also attend a panel on foster care featuring some lawyers, agency representatives. It is all fascinating and complicated and insane. Kind of scary, honestly. But very intriguing, and we do feel like this is something we can try.
2012, January - we send our application to the agency we think we can work best with.
2012, April - we start our MAPP classes. The delay is due to planned work, travel and other family activities conflicting with their class schedules.
2012, May - we finish our MAPP classes
2012, August - we have our homestudy. Their delay this time is on their side. I think some restructuring at the agency upped the work load on their homefinders.
2012, August 30 - we are officially certified foster parents.
2012, Sept - Get our first placement call 6 days after certification. It’s a newborn. We say no. Get a second placement call later in the month, also for a newborn. We say no.
2012, October - We get a call for 2 toddler girls (siblings). We say yes.
